“The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.” Allen K Chalmers
This quote holds great truth. I would add, however . . .
. . . our capacity to contribute, to give and receive love, and our ability to look into the future with vision and expectation is part of what sets us apart as amazing creatures on this planet. It is what empowers us to create change, to heal, and to transform.
I must confess that I am amazed sometimes that, with all of our capacity – all of our internal and external resources – we continue to repeat harmful and tragic mistakes, both in our collective consciousness and in our personal lives. Part of the learning process, I suppose. But none the less, it baffles me some days.
So I encourage you today to follow Chalmers’ recipe for happiness –
- Identify what is the most meaningful contribution you make in your life, and continue to focus on that passion, without distraction.
- Take time to tell those around you how much you appreciate and cherish them. Don’t put it off.
- Trust that you have the capacity to look out into your future and create your heart’s desires.
If you do this TODAY, you will become aware of, yes – there it is – feeling . . . happy.
