Sometimes when I sit down to write to you, it comes very easily. This week not so much.
My mind was filled with so many thoughts; so much has impacted our planet this week. I couldn’t seem to sort through what I wanted to share with you; I would find myself trailing off or going in circles. It was incredibly frustrating.
But then . . .
. . . I left my desk, walked upstairs, and saw my precious Latte’. My chocolate colored, 15-year old, blind, deaf cocker spaniel; snoring contentedly in the bathtub. Yes, I said the bath tub. Smart, he is. He’s discovered the bathtub and the shower are the coolest places to sleep on a summer’s day, when you’re wearing a fur coat.
I realized that stopping to reflect on what this little guy and I had shared over the years slowed my mind and brought a smile. I relaxed and smiled as I remembered how he would quietly and mischievously pull napkins off of unsuspecting guest’s laps at the dinner table or quietly pull toilet paper from the bathrooms into multiple streamers stretching down the hallway into the living room. Quite the games he used to play in his youth.
So my reflection is brief today. If you find your mind racing or going in circles, take a moment to return to a pleasant memory in the past. This will release the accelerator, allow you to take a few deep, relaxing breaths, put a smile on your face, and allow your mind to re-boot and re-focus.
